At the bottom of thepage are links to pdfs of two flyers that you can download and print out. Hand them to everyone and tell them it’s urgent that we save our park from closure and destruction next year!
Here are the texts of the flyers:
There is a better plan for temporary and long-term flood protection.
STOP THE DESTRUCTION OF THE EAST RIVER PARK!
NYC plans to bulldoze all of East River Park next year. They will bury the entire park with 10 feet of landfill, and “rebuild the park” over it. We will lose our jewel of green space for years. We will breathe dirt and have no shade. Trees uprooted, birds chased away, nature destroyed… No playing fields, no picnics, no trees, no nothing! The City imposed this nuclear option for reasons yet to be uncovered, and is forcing it down our throat!
CITY COUNCIL CARLINA RIVERA CAN STOP THIS!
If she says no to this destructive plan, the City Council will vote with her because the park is in her district.

Go to public meetings and express your opinion!
(Meetings announced on C. Rivera’s facebook page)
- Tell her you want her to vote NO on the City’s “preferred option”
- Tell her you want real independent experts to look at all options on the table, and to evaluate the impact of destroying 60 acres of land.
- Tell her you want the City to revisit the less destructive option thatwas most liked by the community: a berm along the FDR!

Respiraremos tierra y no tendremos sombra.

This project is a pure joke.
Only one question: to whom the crime benefits?
Great question! Great mystery. Anyone got a clue?
Massive amounts of money will flow to demolition and haulers. Then the construction phase, massive contracts. The architects, urban planners, security – everyone will take a fee. The banks that move the funds will take a fee. There was some talk the dirt to be imported had already been lined up – that seems to me be the smoking gun. Who is selling the dirt?
Last I heard, the dirt contracts weren’t out yet. We have no idea what the landfill content will be. That’s a lot of dirt, and it’ll mean a lot of money, but where is that dirt coming from and who will profit? Still don’t know (and we’ve been looking).
